Once you form Russia, you can immediately use the western focus decision to westernize, even though you didn't hold Danzig for 30 years.įinally, you also want the Expansion idea group (although it comes late). Just take it before you use the form Russia decision. Just fill the combat width and you will annihilate them.įirst idea should be administrative, second idea can be trade, because you need the money, or you can do for a mil idea, and third idea should be religious.įor Danzig, you don't need to worry about taking it early. If the PLC PU forms, both get the Lithuanian king who has 1 in military skill so they are lot behind in mil (although Lithuania starts in 1444 with national focus on Mil so they will be 1 tech ahead of Poland). It would be even better if you're tech 7 and they are only 5/6, but this is mostly possible if you king died early and your heir ascended the throne. The time to hit PLC is when you're tech 6 and Poland/Lithuania is 4 or 5. Start annexing vassals in 1454, starting with Yaroslav followed by Pskov. Don't tech up in diplo until you are at max diplo points. Drop the mission and retake it later, because the second time you would need to conquer fewer novgorod provinces to get the bonus development.ĭoW GH or Kazan when one of them is involved in a war and feed to Ryazan/Perm respectively. Take the mission to conquer Novgorod and feed the lands to Pskov and Yaroslav (I keep the Novgorod province for myself as it is a CoT).

The first wars are for feeding Tver to Yaroslav and vassalizing Ryazan (which is used to feed all of GH lands). I start fabricating on Tver, Ryazan and one of the horde provinces. In my games, I go admin focus on day 1 and feed all conquered territory to my vassals. It has an incredibly high production income, like a gold mine that doesn't cause inflation, and Sweden's economy will suffer for its loss. One tip I would give regarding Sweden is to make sure to take the Copper Mountain for yourself in the first successful war against them. There's also the 'east, then west' approach - be passive for a while on the western front while blobbing deep into Asia, then hit the Poles, Swedes and so on with overwhelming numbers of troops in the stereotypical Russian style. (Sweden is a glass cannon, but Poland/Lithuania are more persistent problems due to their sheer size.)

So if you want to go west straight away, military ideas are your friend and allying Poland/Lithuania's rivals is a good idea.

Going west is a much tougher challenge militarily, as both Sweden and Poland have very strong military NIs and you will rarely have a significant tech advantage. Relations slots will be used for vassals, so you can simultaneously use diplo and admin points to blob. Going east is pure blobbing, as the hordes offer no real resistance once you've teched up a bit, so to optimise your conquest, you need classic blobbing ideas like Religious (to convert all the land), Influence and maybe Administrative also Exploration or Expansion will speed up the colonisation of Siberia. More precisely, the choice is in ideas and relations slots.
